Content management system (CMS), otherwise known as Web publishing systems, consists of a large database, file system and related software required to store and manage huge loads of data. CMS can be used to create, edit, manage, search and publish various types of contents. Unlike typical databases, CMS can index text, audio clips, video clips or images.
Content management systems reduce the effort of Web site developers to publish contents online. They use CMS to create information portals. Apart from offering the database management capabilities, the CMS also allows non-technical authors and editors to contribute information to the Web site via graphical user interface (GUI).
